Cooling People Without Heating Up Our Planet

We want to provide sustainable passive cooling around the globe by gathering inspiration from plants

The Problem

We Are Trapped In a Vicious Cycle

Our Earth is rapidly warming due to climate change, long-term shifts in the temperature, and climate patterns that have been accelerated by human activity. Temperatures are on an incline to hit a point that surpasses the max temperature a human body can function at. Researchers estimate that 37% of all heat-related deaths are caused due to climate change. There are man-made solutions to provide instant cooling but they are unaffordable to those who need it most. The air conditioner's footprint is actually heating up the Earth. ACs contribute to 3.9% of total global greenhouse gas emissions due to the consumption of electricity (consuming 20% of the energy used in buildings) and the refrigerant within the ACs called Hydrofluorocarbons (have a global warming potential of 1000x-3000x times more than CO2).

Coolity

We are the short and long term cooling solution.

Applying What Nature Does Best

We use a biomimicry approach. Some plants lose water and therefore cool down by perspiration. The flowering plants (angiosperms) that dominate the tropical rainforests experience uniform year-round warmth and high irradiance, and with their sophisticated leaf, vascular architecture has the greatest rates of transpiration on Earth.

Introducing *Drum Roll Please* Hydrogels

We create hydrogel panels, which cover the roofs and protect the households from heating up. When the sunlight rays encounter the hydrogel, most of their energy goes for the evaporation of water, so the energy from sunlight rays doesn't reach the space inside the house. However, every day hydrogel needs to be refilled with water. Here we utilize the ability of certain hydrogels to absorb moisture from the air and the fact that humidity nearly doubles at night in India, which allows us to refill the hydrogel with water during the night and get it ready for the use during the day.

Our Impact

We Are A Cheaper, More Carbon Friendly Solution While Still Keeping Your Building Cool.

They protect a roof from heating for at least eight hours.

Their carbon footprint is 50% less than a typical air conditioner.

Our hydrogels reduce energy costs of cooling by 20% to 35%.

Our hydrogels can cool a roof by 40°C.

TESTIMONIALS

We are not the only ones who see potential in Coolity.

WHY WE CARE

As Greta Thunberg puts it, “Our house is on fire”. We are a group of teenagers afraid that our future will be robbed from our planet’s warming. It is scary to see on the news the several Australian wildfires, cities being flooded, and the several hurricanes ravaging homes. It seems as if the effects of climate change are going to hit us sooner or later, and we don’t want to be helpless to stop it.

Team

Our
Team

We are a team of teenagers trying to bring positive change. We all are passionate about climate change and innovating solution we need to solve this massive problem.
